Textiles is a big part of my life and although I am interested in the textiles behind the clothing in fashion, I also have a huge variety of interest in textiles as a whole. I believe that this is the course for me as it will allow me to widen my career path by giving me opportunities I have only dreamt of being a part of. I love creating new ideas from something as simple as a collection of yarns and fabric as you can create so many imaginative ideas from such simple media, so being able to explore my ideas on a wider range would be extremely beneficial to myself. I love experimenting with various colours and textures and am a very hands on textiles person. I have selected these 12 images of my work because I believe they show a variety of my skills and techniques that I have learnt from doing my foundation course this year. Even though a lot of my work is done from imagination and exploring ideas to their full potential, I also love working to create something specific. I find everything inspiring, from that being something as exciting as a mixed media Rauschenberg collage, to something as simple as a few stones on the floor. Identity is my first project and here I am turning an old shirt into a trophy style jacket with embellishments, hand knits, bottle tops and things that excite me. This piece shows the type of person I am and although I aim to cover this completely, I love the piece as its own already, my second piece is a variety of hand knits, rope making and tie-dying that I have created for my shirt, although I aim to attach these to my shirt, I love them displayed by themselves on this sheet. My third image is inspired my Rauschenberg which I created to give me ideas. Artist book is another project of mine which shows the life of a fashion designer and how one collection could cause their whole career to fall to pieces with the scribble on the right hand side to show a hole, this is just a sample from my sketch book as I love the colours and fabrics used here, the piece as a whole is a book. Architecture is another project and I have enclosed a variety of close ups to show the detail in my samples, these are all inspired from the old and new architecture from a trip in London. My last images are life drawings and although they are very colourful and in the style of being a collage, I love that they are different to the way most people draw. I am a confident, experimental person with a unique and creative understanding which I believe will enable me to stand out in the textiles industry.
